The Gayest Things You'll See This Week (NSFW Version)

If you are straight, easily offended, an a-hole or my little sister, I highly recommend skipping this post.

Gay comedian/songwriter/singer Jonny McGovern is back with a new video for his latest single "Dickmatized" from his upcoming album "The Gayest of All Time."

Jonny was a cast member of Logo's short-lived sketch comedy show "The Big Gay Sketch Show" and was often very funny on it. I posted his video for "Sexy Nerd" not too long ago.

His latest music video is certainly the dirtiest he's done, but  it's also very, very funny. And very NSFW (Not Safe for Work, for those new to the Internet - and if are in fact, new to the Internet, welcome to the 21st Century, Loser).

I'm sorry. I try not to be mean, but it sometimes just slips out.

Anyway, here's Jonny's video (via). And while I won't admit to actually suffering from this particular condition, I will say that I understand where he's coming from (pun subconsciously intended).

Time for a cold shower... Or maybe I should take up B-Ball...

And here's a bit of Jonny on 'The Big Gay Sketch Show:"

Funny stuff.

The Most Disappointingly Gay Thing You'll See This Week

LOGO is the gay cable channel. They show plenty of (edited) LGBT films like All Over the Guy, Big Eden and Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss ad nauseum. They also air the occasionally hilarious "The Big Gay Sketch Show" and the often hilarious-for-all-the-wrong-reasons "RuPaul's Drag Race."

That, I suppose, is well and good. But LOGO also airs its own version of Bravo's "Real Housewives" series, "The A-List." This so-called "reality" series features a group of supposedly wealthy gym bunnies who have nothing better to do than sleep around and bitch about each other. A recent NYT article (via) ripped into the show for being shallow and vacant, a sentiment with which I wholeheartedly agree. I've never watched the show, but can tell from its promos (like most "reality" shows) that it is garbage. And even worse, "The A-List" is nothing but fodder for right-wing conservative loons who hate the LGBT community. See for yourself:

Really, LOGO? Why would you perpetuate this kind of nonsense? It's bad enough that the LGBT Community is the single most hated minority on the planet, but do you have to go and perpetuate all the reasons why? The men depicted on this program are so far outside of what the majority of gay men experience, I can't even put it into words. I just know that not one single person, gay or straight, in my social circle would want anything to do any of the men who so shamelessly exploit themselves in this manner. And shame on anyone who identifies themselves with these people. "The A-List" is the worst sort of television pandering and I am personally calling LOGO out for airing such trash. Personally, I prefer reruns of "Will and Grace" over this crap. At least "Will and Grace" was funny. "The A-List" is just pathetic...

And So It Begins...

If you are a regular reader from the beginning, then you know that I am founding board member of the James Tolin Memorial Fund. The JTMF is an organization which produces an annual event featuring a show, reception and silent auction to raise funds for AIDS support groups and Arts Education groups in New Jersey.

James Tolin was a local NJ actor who was lost to HIV-related illness in 2001. James loved to laugh and to honor his memory, we produce only comedies. Some of our past productions have included Jeffrey; Mr. Charles, Currently of Palm Beach; The Altruists; Psycho Beach Party; What the Butler Saw and The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told.

This coming June, our 8th annual fundraiser features Del Shores' hilarious "Black Comedy About White Trash," Sordid Lives. The show inspired a movie starring Bonnie Bedelia, Delta Burke, Beth Grant, Beau Bridges, Leslie Jordan and Olivia Newton John. The story centers around a Texas family gathering for the funeral of their beloved matriarch who died as result of a head injury sustained while tripping over the prosthetic legs of her paramour in a cheap motel. The show also inspired a short-lived series on Logo.

Tonight, the first "unofficial" planning meeting was held between myself, the company's founder and a newish, but good friend who has offered support and advice on marketing, networking and promotion, as well as finally establishing the JTMF as a 501C NPO. If you are interested, you can the JTMF Facebook group, here.

If you missed my previous post about Sordid Lives, here's the trailer for the movie (language may be NSFW):

And here's a clip from the Logo series:

If you are on the East Coast, I hope you can join us this June for what promises to be the campiest, most raucous and most outrageous JTMF event, yet. I guarantee you'll enjoy a terrific evening of live theatre and good food, while helping to raise funds for several good causes and honoring the memory of a fallen comrade.

How the Mormon Stole Everything

You may want to file this under "Prospero's Philosophy," though I will leave it up to you. Suffice it to say, I think this is the first time I have shared my personal views on philosophy and religion (other than the "Religious Right's" role in the passing of Prop 8) on this blog.
From The Big Gay Sketch Comedy Show on Logo (via) comes this hilarious animated parody.

I don't hate members of the CLDS. They're only doing and saying what has been ingrained in them since childhood. I don't hate anyone, actually. Well, maybe Brad Pitt. And whoever is sleeping with Brandon Routh. And Goldie Hawn. Oh... and for a while, Meg Ryan.
What I hate is the perpetuation of the misunderstandings and outright lies of nearly every religious doctrine in the world. Why, in 2009, do we still hold on to mythology? The answer, of course, lies in our unending quest to know why.
The teachings of Zen tell us we need to learn to accept life as it is; savor it and revel in the joy of existence. Hinduism espouses multiple incarnations toward the ultimate goal of enlightenment. Valhalla is accessible only through valour in life and death in combat; eternity with Ra requires the careful preservation of of the body and the accompaniment of all that is earthly, while Wiccans pray to goddesses of the Earth and Moon, long thought dead. As Paul Rudnick says about members of the LDS, "If he'd told (his wife) the truth, you'd all be worshipping a waitress."
And I'm certainly not saying you should not believe in God (or the deity of your choice). Personally, I consider myself an 'Agnostic Secular Humanist with Leanings Toward Buddhism. ' Does that mean I don't believe in a Higher Power? No. What I believe is that the Higher Power is unknowable (that's the actual definition of Agnostic., by the way).
In fact, some important scientific minds agree that there must be something intelligent in the design of the complex mathematics and physics which seem to guide the Universe (even if the more we know, the less much of it makes sense), though they offer no truly rational explanations for their beliefs.
Since the dawn of civilization, man has struggled with the same philosophical questions.
There are more theories; superstitions; legends; mythologies and religions, than I can count on hands, fingers and other appendages (wink-wink). With so many things from which to choose, how can there possibky be One way; One answer? How can only one religion be the "true" religion? Obviously, it can't. Which then implies that all religions are false. And in a way, they are. I honestly believe that some questions will be forever left unanswered. And I'm OK with that. Because I am having a grand time while I'm here. Not all of it is wonderful, but most of it is amazing!
Of course, a lot of what I am saying is directly influenced by my current theatrical project, which I am sure you sick of hearing about, by now.
Alright. I know, I know. You didn't stop by for a lesson in esoterica. Honestly, I didn't expect to give one. It's just that kind of night.
'

Thank you for reading. I love that you do. Comment away.
