Remember, Remember: Don't Shave in MOvember.

"Eets just so ree-dic-u-lous!"
November isn't just about Thanksgiving and Turkeys. Just as October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month (pink ribbons everywhere you look), November has been dubbed "Movember" for Men's Health Awareness Month (the Mo comes from Mustache, which men aren't supposed to shave instead of wearing a pink ribbon).

Uncle P is a traditionalist and wears the goatee he's worn for twenty years because a) I look ridiculous without it and b) it helps define my face. The only time I shave it is if I have to for a show. The last time it came off was last for three weeks in April 2012 to play Edna is Hairspray. And that was the first time in a very long time.

Unlike my Dear D and a few other hirsute gentlemen like myself, I don't have a magically regenerating beard (D get's an 11:30 AM shadow), nor nearly the thickness of facial hair to engage in anything fancy, like the Batstaches below:

Of course, some men have made their mustaches their trademarks:

And while some guys can really rock facial hair:

Other guys fail really well at it:

This Guy is the Real Dracula?

If Theodore Geisel had Been a Barber

Prince Justin D'Bague of Douchylvania

Of course, if you're really good at it, you might end up as a contestant in a beard and mustache competition like these weirdos:

Whether or not you shave this month is really irrelevant to me. What's not is our health. Yes, I said ours. Without you, I have no one to write for. Without me... well, who am I kidding? You'll find another blogger... or whatever is going to replace the format, eventually. Anyway...

Gentlemen, check yourselves for testicular, prostate and breast cancer (yes, men get breast cancer) regularly. If you are over 40 get a regular prostate exam and regular colonoscopies should start at 50. You get one body, guys. You should know it well enough to know when something's wrong. For more information, visit Movember United States. You can also donate money there towards men's health initiatives, including mental health groups. I'm not one to talk, but eat right (I really try and am getting better at it); sleep well (always an issue for me); move - if you can't outright exercise, just get up and walk around; stretch; wiggle; chair-dance; whatever - move!; stay in touch with friends and family and make time for them more often than you think you can.

Just promise you won't try to grow a 'stache if it's going to look like the douche canoe in that last photo.

Pole to Pole (or: Art Can Be Sexy and Sex Can Be Artistic)

Travis Scott, Chris Talbot and Luke Quadrio - Pure Pole Studs
There has been some talk of adding Pole Dancing to the 2016 Olympics. Some people I've mentioned this to have expressed disdain and even disgust at the notion. Yes, I know - Pole Dancing is usually associated with sleazy girls in "Gentlemen's" clubs. But lately, the grace and athleticism required for such performances has been acknowledged as something more than just "dirty." Hell, on last season's 'America's Got Talent' a male pole dancer, Steven Retchless, almost made it to the semi-finals.

The upper-body strength required to do these impressive moves is nothing less than amazing. Personally, I would give almost anything to be able to do what these guys do. Gay Aussie trio Pure Pole Studs are proving that athletes can be sexy (not that anyone doubted that, anyway). Take a quick look at what these boys can do (via):

How can anyone say these guys aren't athletes? Can you do that? I doubt it. I know I certainly can't (nor ever could). And honestly, what delineates Pure Pole Studs from the Chinese Poles performers in Cirque du Soliel's Saltimbanco? I'm guessing it's fancy costumes and and a live orchestra:

Saltimbanco was the first of many live Cirque du Soleil productions I have seen. My dear friend Elizabeth and I were entranced. They never fail to amaze and excite me and always make me wish I was capable of performing such astonishing feats of athleticism. Many Olympic gymnasts have gone on to become Cirque performers and Prospero's own Ariel (the very sweet and intensely focused Christina) has studied with them, going on to create her own athletic clowning duo which performs all over the world. Cirque even has a show in Vegas that is all about human sexuality, "Zumanity" at the New York, New York casino and hotel:

So, where do we draw the line between 'Sex' and 'Art?' Not an easy question. Nor should it be. Pole dancers as athletes? Athletes as sexual beings? To me, it's all just part of being human.

Even More Old Hollywood Hotties

Ramon Navarro
Because either my computer or Blogger was acting up last night, I didn't get to post every Old Hollywood Hottie I wanted to. So here are some more.

Down. boys (and gals)!

And keep scrolling down - Blogger seems to have a mind of its own, lately.

Henry Wilcoxon (with the gorgeous Claudette Colbert)

Tony Curtis

Gregory Peck

Jeffrey Hunter

Robert Conrad

Tab Hunter

Elvis

I don't understand why Blogger is inserting these huge gaps between the pics and my text, I hope you managed to get down to this far.

And while you and I may find more than a few of today's hottest Hollywood hunks gorgeous and tantalizing, here's proof that many who have come before were just as desirable, delectable and deliriously sexy as Ryan; Chris; George; Jason or even Justin.

Let's face it, hot guys have been around forever. Seriously though - give me an hour with Robert Conrad from the 60's and I'll never complain about anything ever again.

Jin's Alive! (And HOT!!!)

Watching last night's Jin-centric episode of "Lost," got me thinking about my recent obsession with ethnic men. Regular readers will know that I rarely post about sex, or hot guys (the Danny Dyer photo being a rare exception) or anything remotely 'dirty.' But damn! Daniel Dae Kim is hot!

I'm hardly a person one could even remotely describe as 'racist.' One of the last things I notice about a person is the color of their skin or the shape of their eyes. In fact, I'm probably more interested in the size of their biceps or the shape of their pecs. But, I am the first to admit that a beautiful man will always turn my head.

In the past few years, I have noticed that I am more and more attracted to men of ethnicities other than my own. That's not to say that I don't find white guys attractive. I can find beauty in all variations of man-flesh (that sounds rather awful, doesn't it?). But the last WASP guy I dated (with the unlikely name of Ford), was just so boring! And please, don't ask me how long ago that was.

I think it started with Coby Bell on the late NBC drama "Third Watch." Smart, sexy and oh-so-beautiful, Bell is the first African American man I can remember actually lusting after (gee, that sounds even worse). Bell played a cop who wanted to be a lawyer, and whose moral standards rose above most of the rest of the show's characters. It didn't hurt that he's drop-dead gorgeous.

There's just something about a square-jawed hunk in a uniform that makes me go all squishy inside. Coby's "Officer Ty Davis" was the epitome of a good and dedicated cop, refusing to give in to the corruption which surrounded him on NYPD. When Ty sat down to take the LSAT, I was rooting for him to get a 180 (sadly, his schlubby partner, played by the excellent Skipp Sudduth) actually scored higher). I was sad to see this terrific show end, not only because it meant I no longer got my weekly dose of Coby, but because an excellent ensemble cast was scattered to the winds of Hollywood once-weres.

Then, of course, there is TV's current ultimate ethnic hottie, "CSI: Miami" star Adam Rodriguez.
Rodriguez plays Eric Delco, a Cuban immigrant and gunshot survivor who is not-so-secretly in love with his white bread co-worker, Calliegh Duquesne (the beautiful and talented Emily Proctor). Honestly, it should be illegal for a human being to be as gorgeous as Rodriguez.

So, what does all this mean? Am I racist? Am I anti-Caucasian? Hardly. Maybe I'm just a dirty old guy looking for vicarious thrills on the boob-tube.

Truth be told, I just think it means that I can find beauty in men of all types and ethnicities. That's probably more than I ever intended to share with anyone, and probably more than you ever needed to know about me. But there it is. Make of it whatever you will.
As long as producers continue to give us hot men on TV, I don't care. All the more reason to set my DVR to "record."
